Grimsbury Farm Café needs volunteer helpers!

More helping hands are needed at a recently opened – and very popular – community café at Grimsbury Farm in Kingswood…to keep it open into the autumn and beyond and extend its opening times on weekdays. The café opened its doors at the beginning of the summer thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Friends of Grimsbury Farm who have converted what was once a former apple storage barn into the lovely café facility open today.
The Friends of Grimsbury Farm group run the community café at weekends – and as its popularity increases are now looking for more volunteers who may be able to offer time to help prepare, serve, wash and clear up both on Saturdays and Sundays – PLUS they are now looking for help on Wednesdays and Fridays as they plan to ensure the café is open to visitors every weekday too!

On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the café is managed through a partnership with Brandon Trust – who offer community placements to adults with learning disabilities. If you could join this happy team and offer 1-to-1 support to one of the placement team alongside Brandon Trust staff PLEASE contact us at Volunteering Kingswood. AND Brandon Trust would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to help out with some creative activities at the farm; if you have any creative skills and would be interested in helping out with some themed activities/events or perhaps run a workshop please let us know.

The café depends on volunteers to help maintain this truly community facility offering local people a wonderful rural setting just down the hill from Kingswood’s bustling High Street! Can you spare some time and help?

Kingswood Community Transport

Kingswood Community Transport ...

Being a volunteer driver for Kingswood Community Transport (KCT) is a valuable and rewarding experience. KCT relies very heavily on volunteers to successfully deliver its Community Transport service to the local community.

As a volunteer you will help deliver a valuable social service that enables members of the local community to go shopping, meet friends, visit the doctors/dentist and to go on day trips etc. Destinations that we visit regularly include Laycock Village, various Garden Centres, Weston Super Mare, Weymouth and Burnham on Sea to name just a few. The role of volunteer driver is absolutely essential in helping local people to participate and remain active in their local community.

KCT has a small fleet of vehicles ranging from small cars, through people carriers to 14-seater mini-buses. KCT will provide you with free driver training, which is no way onerous or difficult, in order that you can drive our vehicles. We also cover your driver insurance so there is no cost to you. We will also provide you with wet weather and outdoor clothing as required as well as covering out of pocket expenses. You can work as often or as little as you like and plan your timetable so that it is convenient for you and suits your lifestyle.

If you are interested in volunteering for KCT please contact Volunteering Kingswood for our contact details.

Walking to HealthWalking to Health ...

The National Walking the Way to Health Initiative have recruited over 40,000 Volunteers who support and encourage people to become more physically active – now you could join them!

Walking to Health in South Gloucestershire would not be possible without the support and dedication of our Volunteers, and we are always looking for more people to join the team so we can extend the services that we offer. Any time that you can give is a great help to us, whether it is once a week or once a month. We are particularly keen to recruit more volunteers in the wider Kingswood area where we offer walks across the region including Warmley, Staple Hill, Kingswood, Hanham and Willsbridge.

Quite simply the main task of a volunteer is to guide a group of walkers around a pre-described route. The Volunteers are the first to arrive at the venue so they can meet and greet the walkers and get everything organised before the walk. At the end of the walk they help to provide the all important refreshments so people can relax and catch up. There will always be 2 or more volunteers on each walk that we offer so you will never be on your own .. + full training and kit is provided to every volunteer walk leader.

If you are a fun, friendly, sociable person that has some time to spare and you have been thinking about volunteering you could be great for our team; please contact us through Volunteering Kingswood.
